Hey Barnyard Besties,
Have you ever had one of those weeks that feels like magic from the moment it starts? That’s exactly what LibraryFest 2025 in Durham felt like.
From the first storytime to the last pony hug, Encore and I were on the movebvisiting six library branches in six days, meeting families, sharing stories, and creating memories we won’t soon forget. I knew it was going to be fun, but I didn’t expect it to be this special.
Everywhere we went, we were greeted with smiles, giggles, and so much curiosity. We read Cowgirl Camryn and the Great Escape, talked about what it means to have the Spirit of the Herd, and I answered tons of questions like “Has Encore ever escaped before?” and “How does Encore stay so calm?” (The answer to that second one? He’s just built different.)
What truly shocked me was that we saw so many families more than once! Some followed us from branch to branch, making the week feel like a joyful reunion wherever we went. By the end of the tour, I recognized familiar faces, got updates on new favorite animals, and shared laughs like we were old friends.
The Durham County Library staff told me we had over 450 people attend our sessions, that’s a quarter of the entire LibraryFest turnout. I’m still floored by that! And I have to tell you… we sold out of books. Every. Single. One. I wish I had brought more with me, but I’m so grateful for the love y’all showed to the Cowgirl Camryn series. I even heard Encore’s name being shouted from across the library like he was a celebrity (which, let’s be honest, he kind of is).
We also received the sweetest feedback from staff and parents. One librarian told me it was one of the easiest programs they’ve ever hosted. It was fun, low-lift for them, and a hit with every age group. Encore, of course, was the star of the show. He handled the hugs, pets, and curious fingers like a pro.
What sticks with me most, though, is the energy. It was electric. These weren’t just quick visits. They were moments where kids connected with animals, learned something new, and got a chance to see themselves in the stories we told. That’s the real magic.
I’d love to have more programs with our local libraries, maybe with some fresh activities, more books, and a few surprises to keep the wonder alive. I’m thinking of fun ways to make it interactive, maybe a “Library Trail Read” where kids collect stamps at each branch, or new merch like sticker packs and coloring pages to go with the books. If you saw us this year, I hope you’ll come find us again. And if you missed us? Don’t worry, we’ll be back.
Thank you to the incredible team at Durham County Libraries for welcoming us with open arms, and thank you to every family who came out to read, learn, and play with us. Your support means the world.
Until the next adventure~
Keep your nose in a book and your head in the clouds!
